About The Royal School
The Royal School is a co-educational day and boarding independent school from nursery to sixth form. The Prep School is located at Hindhead and the Senior School on a beautiful 25 acre site in Haslemere, in an area renowned for its natural beauty. The school is academically ambitious for all its pupils. As a proudly mixed ability school, the focus is on the whole child, seeking to develop their talents and sparking their intellectual curiosity. Each pupil is nurtured and challenged to be the very best they can be. Our commitment is to ensure pupils are future-ready to thrive in this rapidly changing world.
The school joined United Learning in November 2019 and there are plenty of opportunities to grow, share ideas, best practice and knowledge across our supportive network of 7,000 colleagues across the country. The Royal is a friendly place to work and staff benefit from shared curriculum resources, in-house training opportunities and bespoke personal development and career pathways.
Pippa Smithson joined as Head in 2020 and our Senior Leadership Team is driven by a strong vision. Our philosophy of continuous improvement has led to the school enjoying a rapid period of growth, investment and development, including a new Creativity & Innovation Hub and digital roll-out of Surface Go devices to all Year 7-11 pupils.
Our boarding house was opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II offering pupils a friendly atmosphere and a strong, supportive community of boarders. Our focus on personalised, bespoke pastoral care is unwavering as we empower our students to traverse the journey of being a teenager away from home, in a complex twenty-first century world. Our team of staff is collaborative, energetic and creative with constant opportunities to develop the students' experience of key topical current affairs, self awareness and RSHE. Activities and events are commonplace as we deliver a provision for enrichment - ideas are always welcome as we expand.
In The Muddy Stilettos Best School Awards. The Royal School we have been highly commended in the category of Happiest Boarding School & are finalist in the category of Special Sixth Form.
