Due to the departure of the school’s Head of Religious Studies, an exciting opportunity has arisen to lead our school’s developing Religious Studies department as from January 2023. The successful candidate would have responsibility for leading and managing the provision of Religious Studies across the senior school. This post is suitable for experienced teachers of the subject looking to progress.
The successful candidate will be a deeply informed and capable subject expert, and an outstanding classroom practitioner. They will have a considerable opportunity to develop the scope and intention of the Religious Studies department and make it very much their own.
The Lead Teacher of Religious Studies will be a visible and prominent presence across the senior school, with the expectation that they seek to forge deep and enduring partnerships with pupils, parents, colleagues, and the wider community in the East Riding of Yorkshire, and champion the school’s reflective and religious character in a way appropriate to a diverse community of students.
At Tranby, Religious Studies is a popular department, securing strong academic outcomes and seeing consistent uptake for GCSE and A Level. The department is made up of the Lead Teacher and the school’s Headmistress, who is a subject specialist. Each year, a number of pupils take up degrees in disciplines closely related to the subject.
The department readily supports the enjoyment and appreciation of Religious Studies and related subjects (such as Philosophy or Theology) beyond the curriculum, and pupils have in the past competed in national competitions related to the subject.
