Overall Aim

As KHSE continues to expand, a new role has been created to provide finance support to the Sports Ground General Manager. We are looking for a qualified Finance professional, with an interest in school and community sport, hospitality and business development. This individual will be commercially focussed and have experience operating as a finance business partner. The role will work across a variety of accounting and business support activities, supporting the efficient and smooth running of the School trading subsidiary. This role will report to the School Bursar, with close links to the Sports Ground General Manager and the School Finance Manager / wider Bursary team.

Responsibilities and Duties

This job description reflects the core activities of the role and is subject to change as the department and the post holder develops. The School expects the post holder will recognise this and will adopt a flexible approach to work. In addition, the post holder will be expected to deputise for the Enterprises General Manager and undertake such other duties within the scope of the role as may be required by the Finance Manager or Bursar.

Financial Reporting and Monitoring

● To produce management accounts and reports for use by senior management including cash flow & variance analysis for the trading subsidiary

● To support the Enterprises General Manager of the trading subsidiary in the preparation of the annual budget, periodic forecasts and cash flow projections for the company

● To produce ad hoc reports, business plans and financial analysis as and when required to support decision making

● Undertake strategic projects and miscellaneous assignments, as required

● Prepare Nominal Ledger postings and reconciliations and assist with month end procedures and year end routines

● Preparation of VAT returns for trading subsidiary

Accounts Receivable

● Raising sales invoices for the trading subsidiary’s activities working closely with the Enterprises General Manager

● Proactively resolving customer issues

● Ensure bank receipts are applied accurately to the account on a daily basis

● Responsible for the timely collection of outstanding debts

● Prepare month end reports on invoicing and debtors’ analysis

Accounts Payable

● Ensure purchase invoices and expense claims are appropriately coded, authorised and entered on the accounting system

● Payment of suppliers

● Regularly review aged creditors and invoices in process and take proactive steps to resolve payment / processing queries efficiently and on time

Bank & Cash

● To monitor cash flow and oversee all bank accounts, petty cash, credit cards, including bank and petty reconciliations

● Processing bank payments online and BACS payments

● Process monthly credit card transactions and reconcile to statements

Person Specification

Qualifications and Experience

● AAT, ACCA or ACA qualified

● Evidence of continuous professional development

● Excellent accounting skills

● Experienced in the production of management accounts, budgets, cash flow forecasts and financial models

● Good Excel skills, experience of other Microsoft Office packages

● Knowledge of Sage Line 50 Accounts

● Previous Credit Control experience

● VAT and completion of returns

Desirable but not essential

● Experience of working within a school or education setting

● Payroll knowledge, preferably SAGE Payroll

Skills and Abilities

● Numerate and accurate with strong attention to detail

● Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to explain information clearly

● A logical and methodical approach to work

● Ability to work on own initiative

● Strong team player with a willingness to assist and learn from colleagues

● Able to work under pressure, and juggle conflicting priorities

Terms and Conditions

● Salary: up to £40k depending on experience (or part-time equivalent)

● Full or part-time (minimum 25 hours per week) post working all year round

● Six weeks’ holiday per year (plus English bank holidays), to be taken in agreement with line manager (pro-rata if part time)

Flexibility in working hours is expected to fulfil the responsibilities of this key role and meet the needs of the School, including attendance at meetings and events outside of normal working hours when requested.
